Note: Any Obnoxious
Commentary ™ courtesy of the fact that I spend way too
much of my life doing this for clients who pay way too much
money then won't listen to the obvious. Here, I can say
whatever the hell I want. And, while there's still nobody
listening, at least I can say it freely.
Fanfic, Gotta Have
It
The
Pink Rabbit Consortium -- Daring is housed here, plus
they have a great archive with a little bit of everything
(including the best Stargate femslash on the web), and if I
get any hits, it's probably only because they're linking to
me. Loads pretty quick in general, but it's also the only site
that doesn't tick me off when things slow down, because the
art and stories here are worth the wait.
A
Slayer, A Hacker, True Friendship and Love -- The
original Buffy/Willow archive, and even though Buffy has
seriously annoyed me this year, I still think this pairing is
too cute for words.
The
Stephen Ratliff MiSTing Archive -- Literally the
funniest MiSTies I have ever seen. There's nothing slashy in
sight, but you have got to read this stuff.
Lust Bunnies
Ahead
TerylRothery.com
-- So, can you tell I think this woman is seriously cute? What
can I say, I like 'em short with brown eyes. And as a real
plus, her site's easily navigated and loads quickly (which is
a bit unusual on actor sites).
AmandaTapping.com
-- And just to prove tall and blond has its good points too.
Okay, I have to admit, I can't decide if I like the multiple
browser entry page, but that's only because my clients are
idiots and wouldn't know which button to push. However, I give
the site full marks for loading quickly though, and being easy
to navigate. Could do without the teal, but that's just a
personal lack of affection for the color.
Cathy
Rogers -- And the funny part is that I don't actually
usually go for blue-eyed blondes, though that's hard to tell
by this list. She's the hostess with the mostest (and also the
executive producer) at Junkyard Wars (Scrapheap Challenge in
the UK), and solid proof that smart and funny is sexy as hell.
EdenRiegel.com
-- Actually, I have to be honest, and admit, I have no lust
bunnies for Eden (way too young for my personal tastes), but I
gotta say, I'm enjoying her work when I catch AMC. The kid can
act, and she's done a really wonderful job playing a gay teen
as a complete character rather than simply an afterschool
special lesson for the viewers. Now, if they'd just give her a
girlfriend who could live longer than six weeks. Hopefully, at
some point, she'll even have a website that isn't housed on
her old college account.
GAWS
-- The Official Gillian Anderson Web Site -- Gotta
love any women who can outrace a guy a foot taller than she is
while wearing high heels. Seriously, Scully is the goddess of
sci fi chicks, and as a plus, the site loads quick and is
logically laid out, which is a good thing because on my
version, the buttons are illegible.
Honest to God Interesting Sites Without
Sex
The
Brick Testament -- Biblical passages done in Lego ...
yes, Lego. This site is damned addictive, and it's also making
a liar of me because there's sex here. Lego sex. I may never
be the same.
Cat
Claws -- These people make the best cat toys in the
universe, period, end discussion.
Forthright's
Phrontistery -- A dictionary of obscure words and word
lists. Want to impress and confuse your friends with your
incredible language of obscure and unknown words, this is the
place for you. Wander and learn.
JREF
-- The James Randi Educational Foundation -- The Amazing Randi
is a skeptical debunker, and his site is utterly fascinating
(love the columns and message board). Don't agree with
everything they have to say, but the place will make you
think.
Lesbian
Pirates: Anne Bonny and Mary Read -- Interesting bit
of history on this famous duo.
The
Psychic Chicken Network -- Ask the chicken a question.
I dare you. For the chicken knows all and sees all and can
answer many questions about your future in a rude and humorous
fashion. Check out the haunted house too.
Cool Computer
Stuff
AVG
AntiVirus -- So far it's caught everything that I get
daily in my inbox (clearly, I need to hang out with a better
grade of sleazeballs). Seriously, it's caught any number of
things that McAfee and Symantec both missed. Plus, it's free,
and it's not a system hog. Please get it so you can avoid
being one of the people I curse for not having virus
protection. How do I know they don't? Cos they send me
infected email, that's how.
Home
PC Firewall Guide -- Everything you ever wanted to
know about protecting yourself from hackers. If you're on a
modem, not a bad idea. If you're on DSL or any other
"always on" connection, an absolute necessity.
Includes a security test for your computer.
Mozilla
-- Netscape's newest incarnation as an open-source web browser
is remarkably good already, and it's not technically even in
release yet. Yes, there are bugs (it's a beta), but it's free,
and doesn't seem to crash nearly as often as Netscape or IE.
Opera
-- Another very good alternative to Netscape and IE. It's
fast, cusomizable, comes in free (ad supported) and pay
versions, and in Java and Java free versions.
Sygate
Personal Firewall -- A pretty good little free
personal firewall that's easy to use and doesn't hog your
system resources.
ZDNet's
Shareware Library -- If you're looking to try out
shareware, this is the place to find it. Just type in a
keyword and go.
